army-jammuNew Delhi: Seventeen Indian soldiers lost their lives in a dastardly attack on the Indian army base at Uri in Kashmir by heavily armed militants suspected to be from Pakistan-based JeM on Sunday morning. About 20 army personnel were injured. The Indian army base is located a few kilometres from the Line of Control (LoC).

Four terrorists were also killed after the three-hour gun battle. It is reported that most of the Indian casualties were soldiers who were asleep in the camp at the time of the attack.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has condemned the attack, saying those responsible for it will not go unpunished.

The attack took place at the rear office of the Indian army battalion at Uri, which is located close to the Line of Control (LoC).
