KOCHI:
The deep cultural influences that inspire a high degree of resourcesfulness in challenging situations give a sharp competitive instinct and an astute business perspective to Indian born managers thus taking them to lead global corporates world over, stated R Gopalakrishnan, the former Director of Tata Sons Limited and Vice Chairman of Hindustan Uniliver Limited.

He was talking at a lecture meeting of Kerala Management Association. He went on to add that the ability to ‘think in English and act in Indian”, enables flexible functioning in multicultural environments for these managers. Other speaker at the event Dr. Ranjan Banerjee, Dean and Professor at S.P. Jain Institute of Management and Research (SPJIMR) spoke on how today’s young managers can build on these advantages and bring to the table their own generational learning, attitudes and capabilities to ensure future success. Dr Banerjee added that in the coming future management thinking and practice could well evolve to be yet another soft power that India exerts over the world.

The speakers explained that the ‘Made-in-India Managers’ are those who have received their foundational education and degree in India at least upto the age of eighteen. They have had prolonged exposure to Indian institutions like families, schools, colleges, media and politics and thereafter take up higher studies and careers in multinational companies in abroad as well as in India.

The latest book ‘The Made in India Manager’ authored by R Gopalakrishnan and Dr. Ranjan Banerjee was also released during the occasion. In the meeting presided by KMA President Dinesh P Thampi, Managing Committee Member Deepak L Aswani welcomed the gathering and Honorary Secretary V. George Antony proposed the vote of thanks.
