Diabetic Retinopathy Awareness Seminar and Free Medical Camp

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
In connection with the National Science Day, the Thiruvananthapuram-based Centre for Innovation in Science &
Social Action (CISSA), in association with Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment (KSCSTE) and Kalliyoor Grama Panchayat, will organise an awareness seminar on Recent Technological and Scientific Advancement in the Management of Diabetic Retinopathy, a leading cause of blindness; on Februacissary 18th. Along with the seminar, a free medical camp will be organised for diabetic patients who have been under treatment for more than 5 years.
The function which will commence at 9.30 a.m. at Kalliyoor E.M.S. Hall will be inaugurated by District Panchayat Member V. Lathakumari. The function, to be presided by Kalliyoor Grama Panchayat President R. Jayalakshmi, will be addressed by Health and Education Standing Committee chairperson S. Jayanthi and CISSA Vice President Ajith Venniyoor. Dr Maya Menon from Opthalmology Mobile Unit and Dr. B Krishna Mohan, civil surgeon, Health Services, Govt. of Kerala, will conduct the awareness seminar on the most recent technological and scientific advancement in the management of Diabetic Retinopathy.
Diabetic patients undergoing treatment for more than five years are prone to eye disorders which could eventually lead to blindness. The free medical camp is organised keeping such patients in mind for they will be offered a free medical camp on screening for Diabetic Retinopathy.
