In Kochi
December 12, 2017

KOCHI:
Kerala State Human Rights Commissions (KSHRC) and allowed Idea Cellular Ltd. to construct and operate a mobile tower near SHUPS School, Thrippunithura in Ernakulam district.
The order was against the petition filed by Valsala B Baby, Head Mistress of the school, who has been obstructing the construction of mobile tower. The Head Mistress accused the telecom company for violating rules while constructing the mobile tower, quoting a Government Order dated 1st Jan 2015. However, Govt. of Kerala had subsequently cancelled this vide Government Order dated 16th June 2016.
As the KSHRC order was issued to the Secretary, Kochi Municipal Corporation (KMC), Idea Cellular Ltd. has given a detailed note on the current rules & regulations of installing & operating a mobile tower to the Secretary, KMC. The Telecom Enforcement, Resource and Monitoring (TERM) Cell’s DDG, Srinivasan also met KSHRC Chairperson in Thiruvananthapuram, on behalf of Govt of India, to discuss the issue, and assured him that TERM Cell is fully committed and geared to ensure compliance of guidelines designed for safeguarding our citizens.
The installation of the mobile tower near the school was cleared by District Telecom Committee (DTC), the Hon’ble High Court of Kerala as well as various local authorities, more than a year ago. The site has all valid statutory documents in place, including the Occupancy Certificate issued by the Kochi Municipal Corporation.
