Pinarayi Vijayan to Inaugurate Perambra Coconut Producer Company

Chief Minister of Kerala, Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the Perambra Coconut Producer Company coconut processing complex on 4 th February 2017 at 3.00 pm at Chakkittapara, Kozhikode.

Perambra CPC is an initiative of coconut farmers in Koyilandy taluk of Kozhilcode district. It is a
Producer Company registered under section 581A to 581ZT of Companies Act 1956 was incorporated on 23rd March 2015 with an authorized share capital of Rs 10.5 crore.
The company is formed by integrating 15 Coconut Producer Federations (CPFs) consisting of 220 Coconut Producer Societies (CPSs) and has nearly 23,000 coconut farmers under this network. The company is formed with the main objective of socio-economic development of farmers through productivity improvement, cost reduction, efficient aggregation, processing and value addition, better by-product utilization and efficient marketing of the produce. It aims at providing a fair, steady and reasonable income to coconut farmers in its locality.
The company has initiated projects for manufacturing value added products from coconut which are procured from its member farmers. In order to spear head these projects, around 7500 coconut farmers have mobilized Rs 300 lakhs as equity share capital in the company. From the Coconut Complex, an integrated coconut processing unit, where products such as Neera and its value added products, coconut oil, packed coconut water, coconut milk, desiccated coconut, virgin coconut oil, coir products etc will be manufactured under one roof. The company has established a Neera (coconut inflorescence sap) processing unit, with machineries and equipments of international quality standards, and a capacity to process 4000 litres of Neera per batch.
The company has also established copra dryers (with capacity to process 10,000 coconuts per batch) in all its federations and a centralized coconut oil making unit (with capacity to process 10,000 kg copra per batch) in the company. The federations are planning to procure coconuts from its member farmers at a price higher than market price. The federations will process copra and supply to the company where coconut oil will be produced, packed and marketed in company’s brand name of Biofarmers. The company will start its operations immediately after commissioning its processing units in the month of February 2017. It has also
established coconut kiosks at various locations in order to market quality coconut products.
Coconut Development Board, under its scheme;Technology Mission on Coconut; has provided financial assistance of 25% of capital cost as back ended subsidy for establishing Neera processing unit, copra dryers and coconut oil unit. Also, the state government, realizing the significance of this farmer collective, has provided financial assistance of Rs 50 lakhs as equity grant to the company. This initiative is expected to bring about socio-economic development of coconut farmers involved in the company.
