Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana Launched in Tamilnadu

Minister of State Pon. Radhakrishnan handed over free LPG connections at Nagercoil, Kanyakumari Distt., Tamilnadu
“The Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana Scheme at Tamilnadu will help women in backward rural areas to lead a healthier life. The smoke and soot from firewood used for cooking in villages has been proved to be eqPMUY2uivalent to the smoke from 400 cigarettes”, said Pon. Radhakrishnan, Minister of State for Shipping, Road Transport and Highways while launching the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) at Nagercoil, Kanyakumari Distt., Tamilnadu today.
He handed over subscription vouchers for security free LPG connections to a representative number of 30 women beneficiaries from IndianOil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum oil companies.
He highlighted that “the 3.12 lakhs PMUY currently identified beneficiaries of oil companies in Tamilnadu would be increased to a number of 10 lakhs beneficiaries by 2018”.
R. Sitharthan, Executive Director (Tamilnadu & Puducherry), IndianOil & State Level Coordinator, Oil Industry, Tamilnadu during his address said that “it is a very significant day for the oil industry in Tamilnadu as this would mark the beginning of improving the lifestyles of rural women. Oil companies contributes significantly to the growth of the nation and the Pradhan Mantri Ujjwalal Yojana Scheme is a very satisfying social benefit scheme which all of us have taken up in right earnest. The Government has a grand vision of benefitting 5000 crore rural women with this scheme which has already been launched in several parts of the country.”
The scheme was launched as part of the Sabka Saat Sabka Vikas programme conducted at Nagercoil. L K S Chauhan, Chief General Manager (LPG), IndianOil, Tamilnadu, Shrikant Yadwadkar, Deputy General Manager, BPCL, S R Anbabhavani Kumar, Deputy General Manager, South Zone, HPCL, B L Meena, Regional Officer, NHAI and M. Muruganantham, Trustee, Chennai Port Trust Board, Chennai were present during the launch of the scheme.
