THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Reading Cinema: Theories and Techniques, a book that reviews film as an audio-visual text with a grammar and language of its own, was released at the Open Forum of the 22nd International Film Festival of Kerala today. Renowned film maker Adoor Gopalakrishnan released the book, published by Bloomsbury Publishers, by handing over a copy to Dr G S Jayasree.
Reading Cinema: Theories and Techniques, co-authored by Dr Arya Ayyappan, of Christ University Bengaluru, and Rajarajeswari Ashok, a PhD Scholar at The English and Foreign Languages University (EFLU), Hyderabad, looks at cinema from a Cultural Studies point of view.
The book proffers an in-depth understanding of films, but makes it reader friendly, by incorporating examples which they can relate to easily. It will reach out to anybody who attempts to “read” film as an audio-visual text. This book integrates history and technical developments together into an integrated whole, so that a holistic perspective is given to the reader.
