Sports Minister to Dedicate Fitness Centre at Jimmy George Stadium on Monday

Marking a mile-stone in sports infrastructure development in Kerala, the state-of-the-art Sports Life Fitness Centre will be dedicated by Minister for Industries, Sports and Youth Affairs, E P Jayarajan, at the Jimmy George Indoor Stadium here on February 4 (Monday).

The world-class facility, which has ultra-modern equipment and services of expert trainers, has been developed at an area of 337 sq mtr at the Rajiv Gandhi Sports Medicine Centre, at the Jimmy George Sports Hub in the heart of the state capital.

V S Sivakumar, MLA, will preside over the inaugural function, scheduled at 5 pm. The function will be attended by Corporation Councillor Aisha Baker, Dr A Jayatilak, Principal Secretary, Sports and Youth Affairs, and Sanjayan Kumar, Director, Sports and Youth Affairs.

“ This fitness centre is a major asset for sports in the state, going by its concept, design and equipment available. It is also significant that this is being opened when the state is poised to make major strides in sports, especially under the Operation Olympia project”, said Sanjayan Kumar.

The centre shall be useful to all public, and most importantly for players and upcoming athletes. Special discounted rates shall be given to players at the facility. Over Rs 50 lakh has been spent for the equipment of international standards at the Fitness Centre. The fully air conditioned facility has all the amenities including LED lighting, change rooms and restrooms.

The Life Fitness Centre comes as an add-on facility for sports personalities and budding talents undergoing regular training sessions at the Jimmy George hub. It can also be a venue for future national events to be hosted by the state. The DSYA has embarked on an ambitious plan of developing nine top class fitness centres across the state for benefiting Operation Olympia.

D Mohanan, District Sports Council President and Mohan Kumar N, Chief Engineer, Sports Engineering, will also attend the inaugural ceremony.
