126 to Participate for the First BPS All-Goa State-Ranking Open Tennis Tournament 2023

More than 120 tennis players have registered across various categories for the first edition of the BPS All-Goa State Ranking Tennis Tournament 2023, which is scheduled to begin on May 13 at the iconic BPS Sports Club in Margao.

The state-level ranking tennis tournament has been organised by the prestigious BPS Sports Club in Margao and the Goa State Tennis Association (GSTA).

In all 126 tennis players have registered for the tournament, which has attracted droves of tennis talent from across the state.

Many young players have registered for the state-ranking tournament. For the boys’ under-14, under-18, and girls’ under-14 and under-18 categories, a total of 61 young players have signed up.

The tournament will showcase a wide range of talent as a total of 43 participants have registered themselves across the mixed doubles category, men’s doubles, men’s singles and women’s singles categories. Altogether 22 players also enrolled to compete in the 45+ singles, 45+ doubles, 55+ doubles, and 55+ singles categories in the tournament.

“The BPS Sports Club is pleased to organise this tennis tournament at our iconic club. We are looking forward to experiencing some great tennis and hope that the spirit of sportsmanship comes alive at this year’s BPS All-Goa State Ranking Tennis Tournament 2023.” says Santosh George, President of the BPS Club.

The BPS All-Goa State Ranking Tennis Tournament 2023 features a unique rank-based system, based on the number of points earned by players throughout the tournament. The more points a player earns, the higher his or her rank at the end of the tournament. Players with higher points will improve their seeding in the next tournament. Points are earned by advancing through the tournament’s rounds. Players earn five points in the pre-quarter finals, 10 points in the quarterfinals, 20 points in the semi-finals, 30 points in the finals. The winner of the finals wins 50 points.

The Tournament is scheduled to commence on May 13. While the veterans category matches will be held on May 13-14, all the other open category tennis matches will commence on May 15 and conclude on May 20.
