CHENNAI:
ACC, the cement and building material company of the diversified Adani Group, exhibited its block level Self-Help Groups (SHGs) in Navakkarai. Through the Adani Foundation, the Company is empowering both these SHGs to enhance livelihoods and becoming self-reliant. It is encouraging women by equipping them with skills, resources, and a platform to generate income and contribute to their families and communities. This initiative not only fosters economic empowerment but also promotes social development and gender equality.
ACC participated in an exhibition by presenting two of its outstanding SHG micro-enterprises, ‘Miracle’ and ‘Sri Siva Sakthi’, which showcased their diverse range of products and services. These SHGs are dedicated to empowering women through entrepreneurship, making a significant impact on their lives and the community. The event was organized by the District Administration and Tamil Nadu Mahila Projects Department highlighting the extraordinary accomplishments of SHGs and local women in the Church Colony and Marappalam areas.
Miracle, comprising women residing in Church Colony, embarked on their entrepreneurial journey with limited knowledge and guidance. With the support of the Adani Foundation, women received essential training and financial assistance to establish a ‘Cold Pressed Oil Making’ enterprise. They quickly mastered the art of extracting coconut oil, groundnut oil and sesame oil and began selling high-quality products to local residents, generating a monthly income of over INR 10,000.
Similarly, sri Siva Sakthi SHG, consisting of women from Marappalam, overcame their initial lack of awareness about SHGs and entrepreneurship. With the support of the Adani Foundation, these women established a state-of-the-art ‘Bakery Unit’ micro-enterprise, equipped with modern baking facilities. The SHG members underwent extensive training and started producing a wide variety of baked goods, including cookies, cupcakes, bread, and brownies. Their products gained popularity among local residents, resulting in a monthly income of INR 12,000.
ACC remains committed to empowering women and fostering entrepreneurship. The remarkable efforts of these women serve as inspiring examples of financial independence and community development, strengthening the foundations of women empowerment in society.
