Advancing Diabetic Foot Care: A Successful CME at Amrita Hospital

The Department of Endocrinology & Diabetic Foot Surgery at Amrita Hospital, Kochi, successfully conducted a one-day Continuing Medical Education (CME) program on March 22, 2026, centered on the theme “Practical Approach to Diabetic Foot Management.” The event witnessed an overwhelming response, with participation from more than 200 doctors from across the region, reflecting the growing need for structured and evidence-based diabetic foot care education.

The CME was meticulously designed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world clinical practice. The scientific program covered a comprehensive spectrum of diabetic foot management, including early diagnosis, infection control strategies, surgical decision-making, and advanced limb salvage techniques. Sessions by national and international experts emphasized practical approaches, case-based discussions, and algorithm-driven management, enabling clinicians to translate learning directly into patient care.

A dedicated hands-on workshop for nurses and wound care staff was conducted, focusing on practical skill development in evidence-based wound care. This workshop included training in Negative Pressure Wound Therapy (NPWT), local oxygen therapy, diabetic foot care protocols, and appropriate footwear prescription. By enhancing the competency of frontline healthcare providers, the program aimed to strengthen the continuum of care essential for successful diabetic foot management.
