Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Mental Health: Talk by Jeemon Jose at CUSAT

KOCHI:
Due to the pandemic, a record number of people sought help last year for problems such as anxiety, depression and eating disorders. The President of the Royal College of Psychiatry, UK reported that up to 10 million people could need mental health support because of the pandemic, and this includes 1.5 million children.

This situation creates a huge demand for health professionals. Hence, an alternate approach to deal with mental health issues is needed. Given the advances in AI, we could find viable alternatives to help people requiring mental health support. In this talk, he will elaborate on AI-based methods to support people with mental health issues. In this context, CUSAT Alumni Network (CAN), the university level alumni association of
CUSAT is organising its first alumni lecture series on the topic ‘Artificial Intelligence and Mental Health’ at 03.00 pm on 12th November 2021 at the Seminar Complex of the University. Professor Jeemon Jose, Professor of Information Retrieval at the School of Computing Science, University of Glasgow will deliver the talk. Vice-Chancellor Dr. K N Madhusoodanan, Patron Dr. P G Sankaran, President of CAN Deepak Aswani will
talk on the occasion.

Jeemon Jose is a Professor of Information Retrieval at the School of Computing Science, University of Glasgow. He has received his PhD in Information Retrieval from the Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen UK, MS in Software Systems from BITS, Pilani and MSc in Statistics from the Cochin University of Science and Technology. He has published over 300 research articles and has an h-index of 46. He has supervised 17 PhD students as primary supervisor.
