KOCHI:
Cochin Port Trust has received two Best Performance Awards from Ministry of Shipping, one for achieving the highest growth in operating surplus and the other for achieving third highest growth in cargo traffic among the Major Ports in the year 2016-17.
The Awards were received from Nitin Gadkari, Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways and Shipping by P Raveendran, Chairman and Shri A.V. Ramana, Dy. Chairman, Cochin Port Trust in the presence of Rajive Kumar, Secretary, Ministry of Shipping at a function held at Goa on 19/05/2017.
Cochin Port Trust has registered the operating profit of Rs. 127.72 crores during 2016-17 as against Rs. 70.89 crores during 2015-16 recording a growth of 80%. Operating profit during 2014-15 was only Rs. 19.55 crores.
The Port handled 25.01 MMT cargo during 2016-17 with a growth of 13.2% over 22.10 MMT handled in 2015-16. The containers handled during 2016-17 is 4.91 lakhs TEUs with a growth of 17.0% over 4.20 lakhs TEUs in 2015-16.
