KOCHI:
Renowned Malayalam poet, lyricist and Jnanpith Award winner ONV Kurup and popular music director Rajamani were accorded a sublime musical remembrance as a father-daughter singing duo sang some chartbusters with great felicity at the ‘Arts and Medicine’ programme, a weekly music concert organised by Kochi Biennale Foundation (KBF), at Ernakulam General Hospital here today.
The all-Wednesday music therapy, which entered its 207th episode this week, is a joint initiative of KBF and Mehboob Memorial Orchestra, and is sponsored by CAFS (Casino Air Caterers and Flight Services).
Soumya Syam, the lead singer of her band ‘Yash’, said she was participating for the first time in such a programme and was lucky enough to get this opportunity.
“I have been singing professionally for the past four years. But this was a special one and I was looking forward to it for quite some time. To be honest, I was waiting for this opportunity and I am so happy that I finally got it,” an exultant Soumya noted.
Soumya was accompanied by his photographer-father Syam P G, who is also a singer. He runs a studio at Tripunithura. Vishnu, a Federal Bank employee, Mujeeb, a CERA construction employee, and Naushad K A, a businessman and executive member of P Bhaskaran Master Foundation and Bahadur Trust, Kodungalloor were the other singers.
In all, they sang 16 songs. Beginning with ‘Pathuveluppinu’ from the 1993 movie Venkalam, the singers rendered songs like ‘Kallayi kadavathe’, ‘Anuraga gaanam pole’, ‘Pranasakhi’ and ‘Kayamboo kannil vidarum’ during the programme.
