KOCHI:
A sizeable crowd gathered at the Government General Hospital here today to listen to noted singers Rieta Bineesh and P C Joji at the weekly ‘Arts and Medicine’ show organised by Kochi Biennale Foundation.
Beginning with a Christian devotional song, ‘Kalvari kunnile karunyame’, Rieta offered up a musical treat for patients, bystanders and hospital staff. Joji followed it up with the song ‘Ammave Vanangathe Uyi
rillaye’.
In total, the duo sang around 13 songs , including Tamil and Hindi songs and added flavour to the show with a duet, ‘ Akale Neelakasham’. The vocalist Joji concluded the show with a rendition of the evergreen number, ‘Madaprave Vaa’ from the movie, Madanolsavam. The selection of songs worked the magic of creating a nostalgic ambience in the hospital premises.
Rieta, a keyboard programmer and singer has sung several film tracks and participated in stage programmes. The singer from Udayamperoor began singing early at the age of 10 and has shared stage with various famous playback singers.
Joji, the playback singer who has been rooted in the music world for over 25 years was the winner of ‘Super Troupe’- a musical reality show of a leading television channel . The singer has also peformed for various stage shows.
“Singing at a hospital amidst patients and bystanders is a totally different experience . Stage shows are completely on a different level, here we get instant response and the advantage on
e gets to reach out to people in distress is more”, said Joji.
Rieta who has worked as a keyboard teacher said, “Music is enjoyed for its curative properties and it transports us to a stage where we tend to forget our problems at least temporarily”.
The musical show organised by Kochi Biennale Foundation in association with Mehboob Memorial Orchestra and Lakeshore Hospital and Research Centre Limited draws in a fair crowd every week at the hospital premises. This week marked the 158th edition of the show intended to bring solace to patients through therapeutic music.
