KOCHI:
Neutraceuticals and health supplements are gaining importance as these substances can play role in the prevention of diseases, but along with this there is an urgent need for formulation of regulations for protecting the consumers from the use of unhealthy supplements, the observations were part of today concluded two day National Technical Workshop on “Indian Perspective on Food Safety, Security and Standards” organised by ICAR- CIFT.
As the global food trade regulations vary in different countries, the workshop called for formulating a uniform food trade regulations across the globe. The workshop which was conducted in hybrid mode was attended by 400 scientists, academicians, policy makers, Industry leaders and students from India and abroad. The two day event saw almost 70 presentations from delegates on various topics related to food preservation, fortification & value addition, novel foods and neutraceuticals and, food safety, standards & risk assessment.
In the valedictory session conducted as part of it, Dr. George Ninan, Director, ICAR-CIFT presided over the function; Dr. Niladri Sekhar Chatterjee, Senior Scientist, ICAR-CIFT gave the recommendations from the seminar. Dr. Nikita Gopal, Principal Scientist & Head (i/c) Extension Division, ICAR-CIFT and Secretary, Society of Fisheries Technologists India (SOFTI) offered welcome address and Dr. Femeena Hassan, Principal Scientist & Head (i/c) QAM division, CIFT delivered vote of thanks. Awards for the best presentation of posters and paper were also distributed by Director, ICAR-CIFT during the function.
