CME on Current Trends in Autism Intervention Held

With increasing prevalence of autism in Kerala, it is imperative that we device holistic, individualized and practical strategies to ensure optimal care and effective management of the condition. It is important to provide the right support at the right time, and empower the family and child to overcome the associated problems and live better life.
Aster Kids Neurodevelopmental (Aster KIND) Unit at the Centre of Excellence in Child Health, Aster Medcity, IAP Cochin Branch and IAP Neurodevelopment Chapter jointly conducted a comprehensive one day National CME on Current Trends in Autism Intervention at IMA House, Kochi,
Dr. George .K.C, President, IAP Cochin Branch inaugurated the CME while Dr. Jeeson .C. Unni, Senior Pediatric Consultant, Aster Medcity, Dr. Muhammed Akbar Chettali, Pediatic Neurologist, Aster KIND, Dr. Abraham .K. Paul, IAP Disability Chapter, Dr. Prem. G, President, ISHA, Kerala State Branch and Dr. Sivaprasad, Secretary, IAP Cochin Branch, presided over the function.
In addition to the medical management and neurogenetics of autism, the conference focused on innovative strategies and therapeutic interventions such as Applied Behaviour Analysis, Relationship Development Intervention, Picture Exchange Communication System, Com-DEALL approach, Oral Placement Therapy, recent trends in occupational therapy and Rapid Prompting Method that helps to explore and enrich the beautiful minds of children with autism. The conference ended with an presentation and discussion on the future of adults with autism which served to be of great benefit for parents of kids with autism. Led by a highly acclaimed faculty team, this event was a great learning opportunity for more than 150 delegates comprising of doctors, speech language pathologists, psychologists, occupational therapists, special educators, students and parents.
