Conspiracy Behind Defamatory News Against CUSAT: VC

KOCHI:
“Reports appeared in certain news papers are contrary to facts and intended to tarnish the name of CUSAT whichn enjoys international acceptance and goodwill”, said Dr. R Sasidharan, Vice Chancellor.

“Such reports harmful to the interests of the University regularly appear in certain news papers during January-February and June-July, when the admission process is in progress”, he added. What has happened in Cochin University has been blown out of proportion and a scary image of CUSAT is projected in the media.

This can be seen as an outcome of a well-planned, ill- motivated action. Even though such fake reports can divert students, especially those from other states from taking admission in CUSAT to a certain extent, it cannot belittle the
academic excellence of the University. CUSAT is having unparalleled track record in campus placements and academic/ research output.

The University has taken steps as per the existing procedure in every single incident. A student who was found prima facie guilty, has been suspended pending enquiry and detailed enquiry report is being processed to initiate further disciplinary action. University being a higher education institution with the dedicated aim of welfare of students and thereby society at large, cannot act as dictated by external forces.

A meeting of student representatives and teachers was held on February 12th, which was also attended by the circle inspector of police, Kalamassery. In the meeting it was decided to tighten the security of the campus, impose certain control on hostel inmates. The CI informed that there will be presence of police in the vicinity and action will be taken in case of any untoward incident.

“These being the facts, the allegation that University did not take any action is false and planned”, he added. He expressed the hope that the local media which supported CUSAT in its pursuit of excellence in education and research will continue support to the University in the days to come too.
