KOCHI:
CSpathshala is an ACM India ( Association for Computing Machinery: india.am.org) initiative to bring a modern Computing Curriculum to Indian schools.
The idenad_5597a behind starting CSpathshala (cspathshala.org) was that most Computer Science Curriculums had over emphasis on skills and less importance on associated concepts. Skills like brainstorming, step wise thinking, decision making and problem solving have been widely recognized as being relevant and important to help students handle real-life situations at any age. These skills are deeply embedded in curriculum and form the essence of CSpathshala.
The workshop was held, at Cochin University of Science and Technology, Dr. K. Poulose Jacob, Pro Vice Chancellor of CUSAT and Dr. Ramesh Hariharan, CTO Strand Life Sciences delivered the keynote addresses. Vipul Shah , Head, ACM India CSpathshala Initiative gave an overview of the new curriculum , followed by a Teacher Experience sharing session moderated by Premlata Shaji , Cochin Refineries School.
This initiative will train teachers on a new Computer Science curriculum, provide teaching aids, detailed lesson plans, notes and activity sheets at no cost. The project is underway in most parts of India . The workshop is sponsored by Google, TCS , CUSAT and ACM Cochin Chapter CSpathshala is already carrying out a pilot project for 15 schools in Pune and will be rolling out a pilot project in Kochi for grades 1-8 from 2017-2018.
