KOCHI:
Disinfecting the doctors and health workers on covid duty will not be a haunting problem any more, thanks to the fully automated hydraulic disinfectant chamber developed by Bluemink Innovations, a start up incubated in the Centre for Innovation, Technology Transfer and Industrial Collaboration(CITTIC) in Cochin University of Science and Technology.
The device was developed on special direction from Vice Chancellor Dr K.N. Madhusoodanan, by the team led by Prof. Dr Supriya M.H., Head, Department of Electronics, Dr Shameer K. Mohammed and Prof. Zameel Ahamed, directors of Bluemink Innovations. Benzalkonium Chloride solution is being used as the reagent in the device which is capable of disinfecting the health workers in PPE effectively within 10 seconds.
The disinfection chambers have already been installed in various covid first line treatment centres in the district such as Vengoor, Paipra and Nellikuzhy. CITTIC Director Dr Sam Thomas has offered all support for the design and development of the chamber and expressed willingness to support similar innovations to fight the pandemic. Bluemink Innovations has expressed their willingness to install the device across Kerala upon the requirement of the Health Department.
