CUSAT Syndicate Decides to Appoint Dr. P.G Sankaran as Pro-Vice Chancellor

KOCHI:
Syndicate of Cochin University of Science and Technology has appointed Dr. P.G. Sankaran, professor Statistics Department as the 13 th Pro Vice Chancellor of the University.

This decision was taken by the syndicate held in May 3 rd . The Syndicate Meeting congratulated Dr. Titus K Mathew and Dr. Ramesh Babu, who will form part of Multi Institutional Neutrino Project lead by Vermilab USA. Dr. K N Madhusoodanan, CUSAT Vice Chancellor presided over the meeting.

Dr. Sankaran, took his M.Sc. in Statistics from CUSAT in 1987 and Ph.D under the guidance of former Vice Chancellor Dr. N. Unnikrishnan Nair in 1992. He started his official life as Statistician in Spices Board in 1993. He joined Perumbavoor Marthoma College as Lecturer In 1995. Later in 1997 he was appointed as Lecturer in Statistics in CUSAT. Presently he is holding the post of Professor.

Dr. Sankaran has worked as CSIR SRF, DST BOYSCAST Fellow, Elected member of the International Statistical Institute of Netherlands and has won the Young Researcher Award of International Indian Statistical Association for the year 2010. Around 150 Research papers including 110 international journals, around 80 conference papers, three books and Technical Reports have been published under his authorship.

He has been member of the Academic Council, Senate, Staff Council of CUSAT and member of Board of Studies of various Universities. He has also served as Visiting Scientist, Visiting Professor etc. in Indian Statistical Institute, Kolkatha, Kolkatha University, Waterloo and Delhousie Universities in Canada.

Dr. Sankaran is a member of International Statistical Association in Netherlands, American Mathematical Society, Institute of Mathematical Statistics, International Indian Statistical Association and International Society for Business and Industrial Statistics in America. American Mathematical review in U S, Multi Variate Analysis, Computational Statistics and data Analysis, Statistics and Probability letters, Statistics, communications in Statistics-Theory and Methods, Statistical Papers, statistical Papers, Journal of Japan Statistical Association, Journal of Applied Statistics, Journal Indian Statistical Association, Bulletin of Kolkata Statistical Association etc. are a few of the national and international publications which are reviewed by Dr. P.G. Sankaran. 12 students have been awarded Ph.D. under his guidance.

Dr. P.G.Sankaran is the son of Padutholmana Godan Namboothiripad and Savithry Antharjanam of Payyarappilly, Mulanthuruthy in Ernakulam District. Wife Sandhya belongs to Mannanmpatta family, Shornur. Daughters Revathi, and Nandana.
