Drishti to Create a Race Course on Water Using over 6,000 Floating Buoys

The waterfront along India’s west coast will be in the spotlight with an international powerboat racing event set to take place in Mumbai this week. Drishti will be providing consultation and will be handling all on water requirements and safety for conducting the Nexa P1 Powerboat, Indian Grand Prix of the Seas which will be held at Marine Drive in Mumbai from 3rd March to 5th March 2017.
For the very first time in the world, Drishti will tailor-make a 5.2 km race course on water for the global water sport event. “We intend to set up 5,400 to 5,500 buoys or floating balloons to create a race track on water” explained Ankit Somani, MD, Drishti. This will help Drishti to set a record for the longest chain of buoys or floating balloons used to create a race course on water.
The one of its kind P1 Powerboat event being promoted by Procam International under the aegis of Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) and P1 Global will see sixteams with two boats each competing over the weekend. The races will be held on a specially-designed 5.2 km course, for 45 minutes and will follow a circuit around a selected stretch of water.
“This is one of the most exciting adventure sports on water and the best speedboats from over the world will participate in the race. The racing track will be created in the sea, off the Marine Drive promenade between the Nariman Point and Girgaum Chowpatty and back. The eve
nt will be telecasted live in several countries”, a senior official from the state tourism department, Maharashtra said to media earlier.
Organisers believe that the inaugural Grand Prix can kick-start a water racing revolution in a country that has a vast coastline and have arranged various events on the side-lines of the races to involve the spectators and introduce them to the potential of water sports in the country.
