American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers, ASHRAE’s first student branch in Kerala was inaugurated at Rajagiri School of Engineering and Technology Kakkanad, by Dr. M. P Maiya of Indian Institute of Technology, Madras.
ASHRAE was founded in 1894, as a global society advancing human well-being through sustainable technology for the built environment. The Society and its more than 50,000 members worldwide focus on building systems, energy efficiency, indoor air quality, refrigeration and sustainability.
ASHRAE has 78 active research projects and over 700 projects completed over the last 50 years. Prof. Maiya is the President of ASHRAE Chennai chapter. He delivered talks on various technical aspects of refrigeration and air conditioning and stressed on the need of developing
technologies that are environment friendly.
Prof. Saravanan, Student Activity Chair, ASHRAE Chennai Chapter delivered talks on various subjects regarding thermal comfort, climate and buildings. He also explained several advantages of being a member of ASHRAE. Rev. Fr. Jose Alex Oruthayapally, Director of RSET, Dr. John M George, Vice Principal and Dean of RSET and Dr. Thankachan T Pullan, HOD, Dept. of Mechanical Engineering, RSET were present during the inaugural ceremony.
