Five Day Faculty Development Program on ‘Internet of Things’ Concluded

KOCHI:
A five day online faculty development program on ‘Internet of Things’ sponsored by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and organized by the Department of Computer Science, Cochin University of Science and Technology has concluded.

The program was conducted as part of AICTE’s ATAL initiative to impart knowledge in core and upcoming areas of Technology to Faculties in all AICTE approved Technical Institutions. AICTE has chosen three upcoming areas of Technology namely AI, Blockchain and IoT. The FDP saw speakers coming from various parts of India to share their knowledge and experience in their domains connected with IoT.

Around 150 participants joined the FDP from Colleges around India. The FDP was inaugurated by Dr. K. N. Madhusoodhanan, Vice-Chancellor, CUSAT. He emphasized the importance of conducting such programs in upcoming areas like IoT and AI. Prof. Philip Samuel, HOD, Department of Computer Science, CUSAT spoke. There were speakers from Tata Consultancy Services, Schneider, Ericsson, Eigen Solutions, Alcodex Technologies and from premier Institutes including IIT Palakkad, IIIT Hyderabad, NIT Calicut, NIELIT Calicut and CUSAT. The programme was coordinated by Prof. Santhosh Kumar G(M:9447305879), Department of Computer Science, CUSAT.

The FDP began with general introductory talks that explained the breadth and width of the IoT landscape. The later sessions focused on a specific aspect of IoT including Security, IoT hardware, Cyber Physical Systems, Communication Protocols, Cloud technologies, IoT applications like Structural Monitoring. The participants were also given demonstrations of basic IoT device platforms and Cloud including a Wireless Sensor Network platform called Sensenuts.
