Foundation Stone Laid for Development of Althino Steps

PANAJI:
The foundation stones, for the rejuvenation and redevelopment of internal lanes of Mala as well as the cluster of lanes of Althino steps, Phase 1 & 2, was laid at the hands of Sidharth Kuncalienker, MLA – Panaji Constituency & Vice Chairman – GSIDC.
As part of the convergence of the Smart City Mission and Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), GSIDC has undertaken the rejuvenation and redevelopment of internal lanes of Mala and the cluster of lanes of Althino Steps. The scope of work that GSIDC has undertaken in Mala includes the provision of a retaining
wall for high ground, replacement of pavers and provision of light poles. Adding to this, the storm water drains will also be renovated and all utilities will be shifted underground into a utility trench by respective departments. The project is expected to improve the infrastructu
res and qaulity of life throughout the neighbourhood.
The work at Althino involves two phases. Phase one includes the steps near Mushtifund School and the steps to the High Court from Sao Sebastian Chapel. Phase 2 includes the steps near Hotel Republica and steps to High Court Rua Emidio Garcia. The project aims to improve the pedestrian access to Althino. The scope of work that GSIDC has underatken includes the replacement of paver blocks, provision of hand rails for safety purposes, painting
of walls andinstallation of light poles amongst other work.
