Germany To Declare South Africa A Covid Variant Area

Germany Declared South Africa a “virus Variant region” and banned all flights from South Africa following the detection of a new Covid-19 strain dubbed “B.1.1.529”, acting Minister of Health Jens Spahn stated.

Spahn stated that only German nationals and permanent residents will be allowed to fly from (South Africa) starting Friday night local time.Spahn also stated that all passengers, even those who have been fully vaccinated, must be quarantined for 14 days upon entering Germany from South Africa.

On Twitter, he stated that travelers should be more cautious when entering the country.”The new Variant B.1.1.529 is a concern to us.We must act quickly and proactively here.We don’t need an imported Variant that causes more problems.

Germany is currently being affected by the fourth Covid-19 wave.

The country’s incidence rate and daily infections are at an all-time high.According to Xinhua news agency, the total number of Covid-19-related death occurred on Thursday.

This was more than 100,000 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic.

Ursula von der Leyen, President of the EU Commission, tweeted that the European Commission wants to restrict travel from the region of Southern Africa to the EU.
