GIM’s Weekend PGDM-PT Designed for Next-level Business Management

Reskilling and association with a well-known brand helps everyone’s career. Going by the Goa Institute of Management’s records, a number of working professionals including corporate employees and entrepreneurs head back to the classroom each year. The country’s premier AICTE approved B-school Goa Institute of Management (GIM) conducts a three-year part time PGDM – PT (Executive ­­­­­­­­MBA) programme. This year GIM has designed the curriculum to meet the career advancement aspirations of working executives and business growth objgimectives of family owned small and medium businesses. This program provides the full content of a rigorous MBA program.
Past records linked to the PGDM – PT (Post Graduate Diploma in Management – Part Time) reveal that the average class age of the students is 29 years with the highest recorded age being 45 years for the current batch. However, looking at the past record age is no bar for such a program. 33% working ladies opted for the part time MBA programme so far while of the men folk that do enroll for the programme 40% are engineers. While the minimum work experience required to be eligible for the MBA programme is 2 years, the average work experience of the past students has been 6 years. Statistics also point out that the highest number of MBA aspirants for the part time programme come from the hospitality, pharmaceutical, IT, Mining and Services industry. Local entrepreneurs also opt for the programme in a bid to up-scale their business.
The PGDM – PT programme offers prospective candidates the convenience of completing a rigorous MBA program while working or being involved in their entrepreneurial ventures. Conducted at the Sankhali campus and the heritage campus at Ribandar, with classes conveniently scheduled on Saturdays between 2:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. and on Sundays between 8:30 a.m. and 8.00 p.m.
Executives and supervisors with the zeal to advance quickly in their careers who have a bachelor’s degree or equivalent with at least 50% marks and at least 2 years of work experience are eligible to apply.
Said Prof. Ajit Parulekar, Director, GIM, “During the first and second year, the students are expected to study Core and Elective Courses spread over six terms each of approximately 15-week duration. During the third year the students pursue research work on dissertation and either a case study or work place improvement project. The curriculum is designed to develop both conceptual and skill based competencies.”
While the core faculty members with their strong credentials strive towards innovative teaching – learning techniques, the visiting faculty members drawn from the industry and leading MBA colleges ensure that the course is in sync with latest industry requirements. Visits to industries in Goa and neighbouring states and exchange programmes with international institutes are planned to bring in greater exposure.
