PANAJI:
One of the foremost management institutes in the country, Goa Institute of Management (GIM) hosted its annual Grand Alumni Meet- an evocative event that marked a homecoming, celebration and unparalleled joy of communion with the Alma Mater, at its campus in Sanquelim recently.
The institute, known for its diverse alumni base, organized myriad activities this year for existing students as well as its alumni, The
The event welcomed several successful graduates that have experienced all that GIM had to offer over the decades. It was not only a platform for the alumni to reconnect with their batch mates, but it served as a medium for present students to meet with the past pupils.
V. Ravi, Executive Director & CFO, Mahindra & Mahindra Financial Services Ltd., started the day with an introductory talk on the theme ‘Attitude – much more than aptitude’. Driving home the point he said“If you are willing to be a continuous learner and a team player, whichever company you work for, the future will be yours.” The talk was followed by alumni- student interactive sessions, which gave the students insights into the fields that they are
majoring in. The interactive sessions were followed by the Annual General Body Meeting between the alumni and management as well as a short ceremony to present the Alumni Achiever’s Award.
Further on in the afternoon, an entrepreneurship conclave took place on the theme ‘From Entrepreneur to Enterprise’. After the lighting of the lamp, Fr. Romuald D’souza, who founded the institute, addressed the gathering. Talking about pushing your limits, Fr Romuald said “The difference between the first and last in a race is ‘almost’ but almost isn’t good enough. We have to do a little more each time- enough to make a difference. Ask yourself “What more can I do?”
Samarjeet Singh Director and Founder of Iksula and alumnus of GIM, also gave a talk as part of the conclave session. Alumni and students alike, used the conclave to interact and network with the entrepreneurs invited for the event. Lastly, a game of gully cricket was organized by Prayas – the sports cell of GIM, to end things on a lighter note.
The Grand Alumni Meet proved to be an ideal opportunity for the alumni to break away from the cocoon of their corporate lives for an evening of homecoming and celebration, to renew old bonds, foster new ties and relive the magical years they had at the GIM campus.
