THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Goethe-Zentrum in association with Banner Film Society will be screening award winning German movie ‘Sophie Scholl-The Final Days’ (2005), a biopic on anti-Nazi activist Sophie Scholl, on May 20 (Wednesday) at 6.30 pm.
Directed by Marc Rothemund and written by Fred Breinersdorfer, the film depicts the final days of Sophie Scholl, a highly revered figure of the German resistance, who stood against Adolf Hitler and the Nazi regime. She was eventually executed by the regime for handing out anti-Nazi leaflets in the University she studied.
The movie will be screened at the amphitheatre of Goethe-Zentrum in Jawahar Nagar, Kowdiar.
The film was presented at the 55th Berlin International Film Festival in February 2005 and won Silver Bear awards for Best Director and Best Actress (Julia Jentsch). It was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film in 2006.
Entry to the screening is free for public.
