KOCHI:
Ten-month-old Alin Sherin Abraham is bidding the world farewell, but she leaves behind a profound legacy by gifting new life to four others. The tragedy struck on February 5th at around 2:30 PM near the Pallam Borma Kavala Junction on M.C. Road, when a vehicle approaching from the opposite direction collided with the car carrying Alin, her mother, and her mother’s parents.
Alin, who sustained critical injuries in the accident, was initially treated at hospitals in Changanassery and Thiruvalla. She was later transferred to Amrita Hospital in Kochi on the night of February 6th for advanced care. However, despite the doctors’ tireless efforts, the child could not be brought back to life, and her brain death was confirmed yesterday afternoon ( feb 13).
In a courageous move amidst their deep sorrow, the child’s father consented to organ donation. The process was coordinated through the government agency K-SOTTO. Alin’s heart valve is being sent to the Sree Chitra Institute in Thiruvananthapuram, her liver to KIMS Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram, and her kidney to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. Additionally, the child’s eyes will be handed over to the Eye Bank.
The decision by Alin’s parents to donate their child’s organs while enduring such immense pain stands as a powerful example of humanity and sacrifice
