In a major boost to tourism sector in the district, the State Government has sanctioned a total amount of Rs 3,49,42,033 for developing Pilgrim Tourism Circuit at Alangad in Kalamassery Assembly Constituency and the Beautification and Ornamental Painting of the Aluva Bridge in Aluva Constituency.
While Rs 2,01,67,623 has been sanctioned for the Alangad Pilgrim Tourism Circuit project, Rs 1,47,74,410 has been sanctioned for the Beautification and Ornamental Painting of Aluva Bridge.
The Alangad Pilgrim Tourism project seeks to promote Alangad in Ernakulam district as a heritage and pilgrim tourism destination, which bears the imprint of the area’s social and cultural harmony. The project aims to create more infrastructure facilities to be beneficial for domestic tourists.
The project, submitted by the Department of Tourism, is aimed at preserving and showcasing the religious and historical monuments of the Alangad area. The site will be included in the official promotional campaigns of the Department of Tourism.
Noting that the makeover works will ramp up pilgrim tourism in the region, Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas said proper and uniform signages will be installed at the site depicting historical, cultural and spiritual significance of the place.
The Minister said the facelift of Aluva Bridge is a major project which includes painting works, lighting system and civil works of the bridge to make it more attractive for tourists while entering Kochi and travelling to other major tourist destinations in different parts of the state.
The lighting of the bridge is as part of the illumination of bridges under the Design Policy of the state government. It is expected to boost the tourism activities at Aluva Manappuram on the banks of Periyar River.
