  • A ‘Green Initiative’ from Dhanalakshmi Bank Officers’ Organisation

By NE Reporter on November 7, 2019

    THRISSUR:
At a time when the attention of the world is increasingly turning towards the impact of climate change and the ways and means to stop further deterioration, Dhanalakshmi Bank Officer’s Organization (DBOO) affiliated to the All India Bank Officers’ Confederation has decided to do its bit to save nature by adopting the ‘Green Protocol’ in the conduct of its 18th Biennial Conference.

The Biennial Conference is to be held on the 10th of November 2019, at Hotel Dass Continental, Thrissur. The list of dignitaries who will be attending the conference includes the Chairman of Dhanlaxmi Bank, Sajeev Krishnan, National General Secretary of All India Bank Officers’ Confederation, Soumya Datta, General Secretary of All India Punjab National Bank Officers’ Association, Dilip Saha, The Kerala State Secretary of All India Bank Officers’ Confederation, Abraham Shaji John etc.

This conference will be attended by a vast majority of officers working in Dhanlaxmi Bank from all over India. The conference is expected to debate on many boiling topics such as the sweeping changes that the Government has announced in the Banking Industry, inordinate delay in the salary revision of the Bank employees and officers, attack on trade union rights in different forms, increasing number of corporate defaults pushing Banks’ balance sheets into deep red, etc.

Along with the handling the hot topics that are plaguing the Indian Banking Industry and keeping our strong resolve to fight for our existence, it is also decided to conduct our conference under ‘green protocol’. All efforts are being planned and taken to avoid the creation of even the slightest amount of “non- biodegradable” waste out of this conference.

This decision is a result of the realisation that every citizen need to own up and take responsibility for protecting our environment. It is worthwhile mentioning here that DBOO has been put through many struggles and agitations and have evolved to be regarded as one of the very vibrant affiliates of the All India Bank Officers’ Confederation. Living up to the ‘trendsetter’ image, now we have taken it upon ourselves to do our bit towards protecting the environment.

This conference will not have ‘flex boards’ which is an integral part of any trade union conference. We are avoiding Plastic Water bottles in the conference and even on group travel of our members from various parts of the country to the conference venue. There are no plastic files / bags and instead we are using cloth bags. Stage and venue decoration will not have any non-biodegradable material. We have tied up with the Pain & Palliative Care Society Thrissur for the supply of ‘paper pens’ to be used in the conference.

We are giving away cloth bags to our members with a theme ‘Carry a Carry Bag’ with an intention to promote the message of avoiding plastic bags. We also plan to give seeds of trees to our members which will grow even if they throw it out in the open on their way back home.

This is not going to be a one-off occurrence of declaring our allegiance to mother nature. We are sure that similar initiatives would follow from many in the banking fraternity and also in other fields. We are sure that this theme will catch up with a significant number of our officers and they will become brand ambassadors of this silent revolution.
