The morning session of the Clube Tennis de Gaspar
Dias Open 2017 witnessed David Mendonsa and Kevin Rebelo storm into the finals by edging out Glen D’silva and Noel Noronha in a (4-1, 4-2) battle in the Veteran Doubles category. Whereas Nagesh Naik secured his spot in the semi-finals by defeating Santosh Gorawar (4-3, 4-3) in the quarter finals of the Men’s Singles category.
Tennis enthusiast gathered around the blue courts to watch an intense battle between the spectators’ favourite pair Bulu Godino and Lucio Fernandes triumph over Suresh Kadam and Sandeep Verlekar by 4-2, 4-2 margin in the Veteran Doubles category, bringing the morning session to an end.
Ibtisam Shaikh defeated Nitsa Murthy (2-4, 4-1, 4-2) to progress in the finals U-16 Girls category. In the Men’s Singles category, Tejes Shevde shone against Benjamin Crevan (4-1, 4-0) edging closer to winning the title.
Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias Open 2017 commenced with a total of 133 entries coming in across 10 categories. The tournament is being organized by Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias, Goa’s first tennis club in partnership with Goa State Tennis Association (GSTA) and Gadre Premium Seafood.
Clube Tennis de Gaspar Dias Open 2017 will be an annual fixture on the state’s tennis calendar. Spread over eight days, matches are scheduled between 7am and 10am in the morning and between 4pm and 10pm in the evening. The finals will be held on the 29th of January 2017.
