Inauguration of the Indo-Canadian Conference on Disability Rights and Rehabilitation

Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) has organized a virtual conference titled, “Indo-Canadian perspectives on the application of the United Nations Convention of Rights of Persons with Disabilities in different policy domains”. The conference is funded by the prestigious Shastri Indo-Canadian Institute (SICI), Ministry of Education, Government of India.

The conference was inaugurated on 11th March 2021. Lt Gen (Dr) M D Venkatesh, Vice-Chancellor, MAHE presided over the ceremony as the Chief Guest. He released the eProceedings of the conference and highlighted the need for collaborative research in disability. The Guests of Honour, Dr. Prachi Kaul, Director, SICI, New Delhi, and Dr. Angela Campbell, Associate Provost, McGill University joined virtually for the ceremony. Dr. G. Arun Maiya, Dean, Manipal College of Health Professions provided an overview of the conference and welcome all invited members.

Sidhiprada Mohapatra, Organizing Secretary, Assistant Professor, MCHP; Dr. John Solomon and Dr. Vinita A Acharya, the Heads of the Department of Physiotherapy & Occupation Therapy, MCHP, MAHE graced the occasion. This programme was virtually attended by over 218 delegates from India, Nepal, Switzerland, and Canada. The two-day conference is being graced by 25 experts and speakers from the disciplines of law, health, rehabilitation, public health, policies, activists, anthropologists, and social workers.
