Infopark Thrissur to Become BIM Technology Hub

THRISSUR:
Building information modelling, or BIM, which is undergoing the fastest digital transformation in the construction sector, has catalysed IT firms in Kerala, with around eight such companies being set up at Infopark in Kochi and Thrissur.

BIM, which requires seasoned engineers in a range of sectors, necessitates specific software programs and submission of plans at various stages in the construction of simple houses to high-rises in foreign countries.

Experts point out that companies in Kerala have a promising future in outsourcing assignments, given that construction procedures stipulate individual submission of electrification and plumbing plans besides installing AC ducts as well as glass shades and windows.

Infopark CEO Susanth Kurunthil notes that local availability of skilled professionals encourages BIM companies to set up offices in the IT parks of Kerala. “Also, the state government is running training courses in the technology,” he points out.

The companies in both campuses provide BIM services to clients, including those from the UK, Canada and Australia, according to Jithinraj C.V., CEO of Endeion Engineering Services Pvt Ltd functioning from Infopark Thrissur. “As construction now requires individual planning at each stage, we provide BIM models in various detailing levels for Fabrication & Installation purposes,” he reveals. “We have institutions providing short-term courses in BIM. There are enough job opportunities for those who have done them.”

Prasad Govindan, Director of RDS, a BIM company in Infopark Thrissur, says the cutting-edge technology warrants intense attention. “Our design goes straightaway to the supervisors and employees at the ground level. Hence the work should be free of mistakes and loopholes,” he adds.

At the national level, however, BIM technology is yet to catch up, says Vikas George, Director of Elemment Façade which functions at Infopark Thrissur. “Not many firms in India use it. Hence BIM companies functioning the world over need to have full-fledged offices,” he points out.

The other IT companies at Infopark Thrissur function in the sectors of digital marketing, web design, SAS (statistical analysis system) and SAP (system application product). The multi-storeyed Indeevaram IT building on the Koratty campus has 17 new plug-and-play office spaces under construction on the fourth floor. Contact at marketing@infopark.in.
