A.K. Mehera Assumed the Charge of Deputy Chairman, CPT

A.K. Mehera assumed the charge of Deputy Chairman, Cochin Port Trust. A native of Kolkata A.K. Mehera is a Civil Engineer by profession having more than 27 years of service in the Port sector.

He was graduated from Bengal Engineering College, West Bengal in 1986 and completed the Masters degree in Civil Engineering in 1989 from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. After six years of service in two private consultancy firms as well as in the State Government of West Bengal for about two years, he joined the Port sector in 1992 as Manager (Environment) in Kolkata Port Trust. He was holding the post of Chief Engineer in Kolkata Port Trust from 2006 to 2015 and in Visakhapatnam Port Trust from 2015 to till 09-02-2020.

He was engaged in important projects like Environment control measures for both Kolkata and Haldia Dock Complex, Dredging related issues of Kolkata Port Trust, Project of 2 nd & 3 rd Oil Jetty at Haldia and Modernization of Storage & Stacking Yard at Kolkata Port Trust. He was also entrusted with the additional charge of the Estate Division at Kolkata Port Trust from 2003 to 2011.

During the tenure in Visakhapatnam Port Trust as Chief Engineer, A.K. Mehera was instrumental in completing 4 new deep drafted berths having dredging depth (-)16.1 mtr to accommodate fully Loaded Panamax Vessels. Other projects
carried out at Visakhapatnam Port Trust include Restoration of Offshore Tank Terminal Jetty, which was tilted and damaged during the Hudhud Cyclone in 2014 and Dredging of the inner harbour and inner harbour entrance channel from (-)12.5 mtr to (-)16 mtr. He was also involved in the Estate Management of Visakhapatnam Port Trust during the period from 2015 to 2019.
