Kerala Football Thriller ‘ Sevens ‘ to Hit the Green Fields of Goa

Goa is all set to launch the Professional league in Sevens Football. This is the first time ever a state to initiate a league for Sevens Football after Kerala where it is originated. Born in Kerala ‘ Sevens’ becomes the most popular and crowd puller sporting game in the state.
Football experts expect a warm welcome for sevens on Goa where Football is deeply rooted. Sevens is compared to 20-20 of Cricket which revolutionized the play laws in Cricket. With less players, small fields, lesser duration, fast movements, more Goals and spectacle moments Sevens has been widely accepted as a new age format of Football. Sevens is considered as a game for both fields and screen due to its cute characteristics.
The Goa Football Association approved the league and major teams of the Goan professional league consented to play the sevens league. The league is also recognized by Sports Authority of Goa. Major star players will line up in 8 teams including Salgaocar, Dempo, Vasco, Sporting club Goa and Churchil.
The 15 day league is being conducted in a festival mood blending the elements of entertainment, Fashion etc. The training ground near to the renowned Fatorda stadium is the venue for the league. The preparation for the Football field and the temporary metal gallery is on full swing with the support of sevens experts from Kerala.
The league is organized by Goa Sevens Sports and Cultural Association and Ambelim Sports Club, Margaon. N Sports, the owners of the Indian Sevens Premier League conducting professional leagues in Kerala is the Consultant and strategic partner for the League.
The Sevens Premier League conducted last time in Kerala was entered in the prestigious ‘ Limca Book of Records’ as the biggest rural sporting event in the country under the category of ‘ Sports & Entertainment’.
On the inaugural day Goa will witness an unparallel nostalgic event where the all time legends of Kerala football and Goan football come face to face for an exhibition match. Legendary players including I M Vijayan, C V Pappachan, Joe Paul Anchery, U Sharaf Ali, K T Chacko, Bruno Kutino, Roy Barreto and Brahmanand will field for the match.
The formal announcement of the league was done by Mr. Benjamin Silva, President, GSPL on a press conference here in Margoa last day. he 15 days event comprises in a league cum Knock out format starts on April 30th and ends on 14th of May.
Dooradrshan will telecast the Semifinal matches and the Final.
The Tourism department of Goa will include GSPL in their calendar as a ‘State Tourism Event’.
After the Goa League the sevens will hit Mizoram, Tamil Nadu, Telungana and Chathisgarh. All these states express their willingness to initiate the Sevens league in respective states. Middle East is also keen on launching Sevens league in the region.
