The Government of Kerala’s Department of Social Justice has recently granted ₹ 4,50,000/- to SOS Children’s Villages India, the largest self-implementing NGO for childcare in the country. This grant is intended to assist in the marriage expenses of nine girls residing at the SOS Children’s Village Kochi.
The scheme is designed to provide financial assistance to parentless girls living in childcare institutions or Mahila Mandirams who are eligible for the support. The grant can be utilised towards wedding expenses and can cover a range of support services, including legal documentation, counselling and guidance. The eligible girls will receive a one-time grant of up to ₹ 50,000 to cover their wedding expenses. Additionally, the scheme offers counselling services and support to help the girls find suitable partners and adjust to married life.
Speaking about the grant, Sumanta Kar, Secretary General, SOS Children’s Villages of India, said, “We are grateful to the Social Justice Department, Government of Kerala, for their support in providing financial assistance for the marriage expenses of the nine girls at SOS Children’s Village Kochi. This grant will help in ensuring a brighter future for these girls, who have already faced many challenges in their lives. The scheme is an excellent initiative by the Government of Kerala, and we hope that more such initiatives are taken to support the welfare of vulnerable children in the country.”
The grant received by the village will be utilised towards supporting the marriage expenses of the eligible girls and ensuring they receive the necessary financial assistance for their future. SOS Children’s Village Kochi was founded in 1990 with the mission of providing children who have lost their parents or are at risk of losing parental care with a nurturing home and comprehensive development opportunities. The organisation is committed to providing a family-like environment and promoting the overall well-being of these children.
