The c0c0n 2016 is aimed at providing a platform to discuss and share new information and latest trends in cyber
crimes across the World. Cyber crime is a new challenge to the global community, industry and the law enforcement. The anonymous nature of the Internet makes it an attractive medium to commit crimes and frauds. A crucial aspect of cyber crime is that it is not confined to any national boundary. So it is much more difficult to control the extent of criminal activity.
Though cyber crime is on the rise and it is becoming a great matter of concern, there is still lack of awareness among the general public. Individuals are not coming forward to report such crimes either due to a lack of awareness or their
perception that such crimes would not be given due importance. The current trends and evidence shows that cyber crime is likely to grow in extent and complexity as more and more people are using net services for various purposes. It is desirable that industry, law enforcement agencies and supporting groups come forward to empower and protect individuals and organizations from cyber crime and other online threats.
Information Technology is one of the fastest growing industries in India today and is making an important contribution towards the economic development of the country. The increasing use of IT, brings with it new challenges and threats.
Amongst the most significant is the security threat, including data theft, piracy, hacking, identity theft, violation of intellectual property rights, etc. Such cyber crimes are on the rise around the world, and India has no exception. Given the importance and potential of IT in India, there is a need for special efforts to fight these illegal activities.
At this crucial juncture, Kerala Police has decided to start a CYBER DOME CENTRE immediately, especially to fight Cyber terrorism that may destabilize the national integrity.
The Kerala Police has come forth with very strong Cyber Divisions and C0C0Ns, etc and the same has yielded good result in the Corporate and Banking field, especially in safe-guarding its online business transactions. This is where he
importance of C0C0N comes in. The Kerala Police undertakes such initiatives for raising awareness about cyber crime among the users of internet, enforcement agencies and the Officers in Criminal Justice System.
This will provide practical insights on how the cyber crimes get committed and the guilty get punished. The
c0c0n Conference in coming years will continue to spread its area of orientation to local economy and to cover the other components of the enforcement system.
The C0C0N is not purely a police conference. It is a mega event in which the expertise veterans from all around the globe will take part. Also we have representation from the police officers from all the States in India, Senior officers from NIA, CBI, Intelligence Bureau, RAW, NCRB, BPR&D, CERT-In, etc.
The emergence of “Kerala Police Cyber Dome”, Centre of Excellence for Kerala Police was the net result of inspiration accrued from previous c0c0n conferences. Cyber Dome is formed to meet the long term security challenges in the
digital arena of the modern world, by bridging the gap between the latest changes and innovations in the cyber space and the skill set development of Kerala Police, in combating the emerging cyber threats. It is envisaged as a collaboration Centre for both the public and private fraternity to converge and share information, as well as resources, which will escalate the safety of our cyber space.
C0c0n serves as a premier international forum to highlight the importance of empowering citizens, business and government to improve their cyber security preparedness.
