Kerala Student Awarded Full Scholarship to Study at University of Hong Kong

Sarah Sony, a student from Kerala, has been awarded a prestigious 100% scholarship by the University of Hong Kong (HKU) for its five-year dual-degree programme leading to a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Government and Laws.

The scholarship, valued at HK$1.13 million (approximately ₹1.4 crore), covers the full cost of the programme and was awarded following a highly competitive selection process involving multiple rounds of interviews and group discussions. Sarah also met the university’s academic eligibility criteria
by scoring 98% in her Class 12 board examinations. In recognition of her outstanding performance during the selection process, Sarah was invited to represent the cohort of Indian scholarship recipients and deliver a speech at the scholarship award ceremony held at the Shangri-La Hotel, New Delhi.

The University of Hong Kong is widely recognized as one of Asia’s leading institutions of higher education and is currently ranked No. 1 in Asia and No.
11 globally in the QS World University Rankings. Upon completion of the programme, Sarah will graduate with two separate bachelor’s degrees, equipping her with a strong interdisciplinary foundation in law, governance, public policy, and social sciences.

Sarah is the daughter of Sony Thomas, a native of Mayyanad, Kollam, and Vineetha Panikulam, a native of Ernakulam. She has a sister, Esther.
