Sanna Mathew from Kochi made her parents proud by garnering International Rank in the Olympiad Awards, organized by Science Olympiad Foundation.
About 45 lakh students, from over 34000 schools from 1400 cities across India and 22 countries participated in the Olympiad exams during 2015- 16. Sanna Mathew of Class 5 th from The Choice School got the third rank in International English Olympiad. She was awarded with a bronze medal.
The top 3 international rank holders from classes one to twelve for the 4 Olympiad exams conducted by
SOF gave away the following awards this year.
International Rank One – 47 awards – Each winner awarded Rs. 50,000/, a gold medal, Merit
International Rank Two – 47 awards – Each winner awarded Rs. 25000/, a silver medal, Merit
International Rank Three – 47 awards – Each winner awarded Rs. 10000/, a bronze medal, Merit
The top 10 principals and top 40 teachers, whose students put up an exceptional performance at international level, were also felicitated with cash awards, mementos & citations.
The Program started with the lighting of the lamp at The Chinmaya Mission Auditorium in Delhi by the Chief Guest, Justice Cyric Joseph, Member of National Human Rights Commissions and Former Judge, Supreme Court of India. Guest of honor were Padma Shri Prof YS Rajan Former Chairman, NIT Manipur andProf. at ISRO, Michael King, Director Examinations, India British Council Examinations and English Services.
SOF is the world’s biggest organizer of Olympiad exams and have been conducting Olympiads since the past 20 years. SOF spends over Rs. 10 crore annually towards awards, scholarships and felicitations of winners and participants.
Mahabir Singh, the founder and Executive Director of SOF said that in addition to International winner, about 79000 students from 6000 schools have been awarded for achieving top state level ranks. In addition, close to 6,00,000 students have been awarded “Medals of Excellence” for achieving top rank
in their respective schools.
Mahabir Singh added that SOF also provides an annual scholarship to 300 meritorious girl children from the economically weaker section under the Girl Child Scholarship Scheme (GCSS). SOF also provides scholarship to 120 students excelling in English language. It also has been sending students to Singapore to attend a Computing Program in association with The National University of Singapore.
Besides, SOF also conducts Teachers’ Training Programs, through British Council, to share improved educational techniques & technologies with teachers. It organizes various other training programs, camps and exhibitions. The Foundation has also launched a scholarship called “The Academic Excellence Scholarship (AES)” to recognize students’ exhibiting all round excellence in academics. Under the prestigious AES, 160 students across 22 countries are awarded with a trophy, a citation and a cash award.
