PORVORIM:
Hosts Lawyer’s Challengers won the third edition of the Advocates Cricket League T-20 defeating Su-dan 11 by four wickets in a pulsating final played at GCA Academy Ground in Porvorim on Sunday evening.

Chasing a challenging target of 147 runs set by Su-dan 11, Lawyer’s Challengers captain Dattaprasad Shirodkar led from the front with a fluent knock of 31 off 24 balls. He along with his opening partner Sachin Sardessai (24 off 22) laid a strong foundation of 51 runs in seven overs. But once the captain departed, there was a slight wobble in their chase as Sachin and next batter Shantaram (4 of 6) were dismissed in quick succession with the scoreboard reading 66 for 3 in 10 overs

The next two batters Achit and Mithun then held their innings together with some sensible batting. The duo mixed caution with aggression and brought the team closer to the target with a 40-run partnership in just five overs.

With Achit departing after making a 20-ball 23, Harshad joined Mithun (28 off 18) and they took the total to 119. However, the dismissal of Mithun, who was playing really well, in the 17th over made Lawyer’s Challenger’s chase a little difficult as they needed another 28 runs in 19 balls.

Harshad took the responsibility on himself and along with Iftikhar Agha began the pursuit of the target. Harshad was dropped off the bowling of Nilesh in the 18th over and that turned out to be the turning point of the match as he clobbered Nilesh for two successive sixes to bring the equation to 13 in 12 balls. He again hit one more six in the penultimate over. But with the team needing another 5 runs, he unfortunately, got run out. Harshad made a game-changing 28 runs in just 12 balls.

Lawyer’s Challengers needed 4 runs to win in the last over and they completed the formality on the second ball itself with Omkar hitting the winning boundary that gave his team a 4-wicket victory. Iftikhar remained not out on 6.

Yogesh was the most successful bowler for Su-dan 11 taking 2 for 23.

Earlier, Su-dan 11 captain Sachin won the toss and chose to bat first in an all-important final played under floodlights.

Their middle-order batter Dishan played a gem of an innings with a strokeful 50 while Sachit (40) and opener Nilesh (36) made some valuable contributions to help the team post a challenging 146 for 8 in 20 overs.

Lawyer’s Challengers bowlers Sandeep and Sai claimed two wickets each.

Justice Mahesh S. Sonak, Judge, High Court of Bombay at Goa, graced the final as the chief guest while Devidas Pangam, Advocate General, State of Goa, was the guest of honor. Principal District Judge, South Goa, Irshad Agha along with GCA secretary Vipul Fadke and other senior Goan advocates were also present.

Lawyer’s Challengers captain Dattaprasad Shirodkar won the player of the tournament and best batter of the tournament awards. Achit Shingwan won the player of the final award. Su-dan 11’s Yogesh was adjudged the best bowler of the tournament.

The tournament was played over four days with six teams exclusively of advocates across the state participating in the same.
