Legendary singer and lyricist H. Mehboob was remembered through renditions of his immortal songs today at the weekly ‘Arts and Medicine’ programme organised by the Kochi Biennale Foundation at the Government General Hospital, Ernakulam.
Noted singers of the Mehboob Memorial Orchestra, Kochi, commemorated the 36th anniversary o
f the maverick singer’s death with a medley of some of his most popular songs from the 1950s and 60s.
Noted singer Naushad Kochi began the hour long musical extravaganza with the song Mannenun Vilikilla Mayilennum Vilikilla (Neelakuyil, 1954 – K Raghavan) , which smoothly glided onto Pandu Pandu Ninne Kanda Nalilla (Rarichan Enna Pauran , 1956 – K Raghavan).
Singers of the orchestra, including Jr Mehboob, Kishore Aboo, Yahiya Azeez and Diya Aayisha, teamed up to sing over fourteen heart-warming numbers for the audience gathered in the lawns of the hospital.
The immaculate duets sung by Diya Aayesha and Jr Mehboob , Otta Kannittu Nokum and Nee Allathe Aarundu stirred the amusement of the crowd and the other artists kept them capt
ivated till the end of the show.
The Mehboob Memorial Orchestra was formed in 1980 and adopted the singer’s name in 1985. The orchestra has been providing instrumental support to the ‘Arts and Medicne’ programme since its inception.
“To be able to remember the legend, Mehboob Bhai through a musical tribute is an honour for each member of the orchestra and to offer this edition to the solace of patients reminiscing the singer’s contribution on a KBF platform is a privilege,” said Hussain , Secretary of Mehboob Orchestra.
The programme which draws a fair crowd every week is an initiative by the Kochi Biennale Foundation in association with Mehboob Memorial Orchestra, and Lakeshore Hospital and Research Centre Limited to direct therapeutic music providing solace for patients.
