THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
The ‘Gift a Tradition’ project, envisioned by the Kerala Arts and Crafts Village (KACV) to globally promote Kerala’s rich handloom heritage and exceptional local craftsmanship, has officially commenced.
P. C. Vishnunath, Minister for Tourism and Cultural Affairs, officially inaugurated the project and unveiled the specially curated Gift Box, featuring exclusively handloom products, at the Crafts Village in Kovalam. Ahead of his inaugural address, the Minister spun handloom yarn on a traditional loom specially set up on stage, a gesture that served as a profound tribute to the traditional handloom culture. The Minister also commended the Crafts Village’s efforts to transform the traditional and cultural identity of handlooms into a commercially viable tourism product.
Envisioned by the Crafts Village, this project aims to open up greater market opportunities for the handloom sector while integrating Kerala’s traditional products into contemporary corporate and ceremonial gifting culture, stated Shaju S., Managing Director and Secretary of ULCCS, during his welcome address. The ‘Gift a Tradition’ gift box curated by the Crafts Village is a unique tourism product that showcases Kerala’s cultural heritage and centuries-old artisan traditions alike.
M. Vincent, MLA of Kovalam, presided over the function and received the first gift box at the event. Agnus Rani (Member, District Panchayat, Thiruvananthapuram) and Bincy (Member, Athiyannoor Block Panchayat) offered felicitations at the event. Sreeprasad T. U., Chief Operating Officer (COO) of KACV, delivered the vote of thanks.
