THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:
Led by the NABARD Institute of Rural Development, an interactive session with the farmers of Kalliyoor Gram Panchayat was organised in Kalliyoor yesterday evening. Farmers, who are members of the Farmers’ Clubs functioning under the aegis of the Thiruvananthapuram-based Centre for Innovation in Science and Social Action (CISSA), participated in the interactions.
Apart from the Nabard Institute of Rural Development Officers from Assam, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh and Kerala, officials from the commercial and co-operative banks and also the Reserve Bank of India were part of the interactions.
Sreepathy Kalkura S, Deputy General Manager, NABARD Mangalore, and M K Venugopal, AGM, NABARD Thiruvananthapuram, led the delegation and interactions with the farming community. The team was received by R Jayalakshmi, President, Kalliyoor Gram Panchayat President; Kumar, Vice President, Kalliyoor Gram Panchayat; Dr. C Suresh Kumar, General Secretary, CISSA; and Dr. C S Raveendran, Vice President, CISSA.
After the formal sessions, the officers also interacted with the farmers, enquiring about details of their activities ranging from cultivation to the distribution of their agricultural produce. The authorities cleared the doubts of the farmers and explained to them various agricultural loan options offered by the banks. As many as six Farmers Clubs function in In Kalliyoor Gram Panchayat under the supervision of CISSA.
