KOCHI:
V.R. Raveendranath, CGM, Nabard, Kerala in his remarks said that a team of officers from Nabard will be identified to take the recommendations of the National Consultation meet on fisheries Policy forward. The two day meet ended here at Kochi after drawing recommendations for the development of fisheries sector.
R. Amalorpavanathan, Deputy Managing Director, Nabard in the concluding remarks assured that the
recommendations would be consolidated and forwarded to the stakeholders for further suggestions and a discussion paper will be developed on these topics by Nabard representatives for taking up with Government of India.
Devendra Chaudhry, Secretary, Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Government of India who inaugurated the meet suggested Nabard to study various things related to the development of fisheries sector.
The stakeholders consisting of farmers, fishers, processors, Govt. officials, researchers, bank officials and Nabard officers from across the country has participated in the meet and had discussions in groups on the topics namely, Inland capture fisheries and Fresh water aquaculture, Open water aquaculture, Marine fisheries,Brackish water aquaculture, Seafood processing and Seafood processing and credit and insurance. The groups came out with recommendations for developing the above sectors. The recommendations were relating to policy recommendations, investment requirements, and regulations, insurance, credit etc.
The meet is suggested a policy framework and a growth strategy for the complete and integrated development of the sector, viewed as a major landmark in the fisheries development strategies of the Government of India in the coming months.

n the sector from different states of India attended the meet.
