National Handicrafts Heritage Festival to Rebuild the Aranmula Kannadi Manufactures

A National Handicrafts Heritage Festival is going to be conducted to help the rebuilding of Aranmula Kannadi manufactures who have faced heavy lost in the recent flood in Kerala.

The festival is scheduled to be organized in Ernakulathappan ground, Kochi from November 2 to 11, under the aegis of Aranmula Heritage Trust. The ten days long festival is going to be conducted as part of the Kochi International Book Festival. The festival will showcase stalls of traditional handicraft artists from different states like Madyapradesh, Maharashtra, Bihar, Rajasthan, Odisha, Mumbai, Delhi, Uttarpradesh, Punjab, West Bengal, Pondicherry and Thelungana as well as those from Kerala.

There will be more than 34 stalls in the festival showcasing Paintings like Worli, Gont, Madhubhani, Miniature, Patachitra, Mural and Knife, Quilt Hand block print, metal wooden gift items, Blue pottery, bell metal, jute bags, Phulkari, chikkankari and Kolkatta hand embroideries.

23 families who were involved in Aranmula Kannadi manufacturing lost everything in the flood. All their manufacturing equipments, raw materials and already made mirrors were lost. “It is our responsibility to extend helping hands to them for they made the state proud in the international level” said Ar.B.R Ajith, committee chairman, Aranmula Hertage Festival.

“The National Handicrafts Heritage Exhibition and Sale is being conducted to financially assist the of ARANMULA KANNADI manufactures. The revenue generated through this will be completely handed over to them.” said P.R Muraleedharan, General Secretary. Ajayan Pullad, Trustee, Aranmula Heritage Trust, Arjun Sasikumar, M.S Asha Lawrence and R.S Nair participated in the press meet.
