In line with its endeavor to transform the way India sells and towards its commitment to enable $5 Billion in e-commerce exports from India, Amazon today opened its UAE marketplace- Amazon.ae (erstwhile souq.com) for Indian sellers.

Amazon, through its Global Selling Program has now opened a new door for Indian MSMEs and manufacturers to export to millions of highly engaged customers on Amazon.ae in UAE. Indian sellers of all sizes, be it MSMEs, manufacturers or brands can now sell their ‘Made in India’ products on Amazon.ae, with easy listing support, secure payment processing and simplified logistics solutions with Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA). With this launch, Indian sellers on Global Selling, can now sell their ‘Made in India’ products across twelve Amazon marketplaces and reach over 300M customers across 180+ countries worldwide.

Earlier this month, Amazon and Souq announced the launch of Amazon.ae for customers in UAE, featuring millions of products from local and international businesses, including products previously available on Souq and from Amazon US. Categories such jewelry, clothing, footwear, apparel, beauty, electronics and grocery are known to be popular in the UAE market. India is a notable manufacturer in these categories, and through the opening of Amazon.ae marketplace, manufacturers and local brands can now seamlessly export their creations across these categories and take India to the world.

Talking about the launch, Ronaldo Mouchawar, VP Amazon MENA and Souq.com Co- founder said, “Amazon.ae brings together Souq’s local know-how and Amazon’s global expertise, something we believe will be of significant benefit to UAE customers. We are committed to growing our product range and ensuring great prices for UAE customers. As part of that commitment, we are happy to work with Indian sellers, who will be able to bring millions of high-quality Indian products across several categories to the UAE, catering the needs of customers, including millions of Indians in the United Arab Emirates.”

Talking about the new opportunity for Indian businesses, Gopal Pillai, VP, Seller Services, Amazon India said, “In recent years, the growth of cross border e-commerce has made export of products an intensifying force in India’s foreign trade, offering millions of MSMEs an opportunity to expand beyond the domestic market. There is a great demand for Indian products, not only from the millions of Indians living abroad but also from global consumers across ethnicities who benefit from a vast & unique selection from Indian sellers. The program has the potential to become huge in the next three-four years and we are targeting $5 billion of exports through e-commerce from India by 2023. Today, we are extremely delighted to add another marketplace- Amazon.ae for Indian exporters. We look forward to helping businesses by simplifying exports through selling globally and help them develop an international footprint by leveraging the enormous demand for their products across UAE thus transform the way India makes and sells.”

Amazon unveiled its Global Selling program in India in May 2015 in an attempt to provide transformative opportunities for Indian sellers and help them grow & scale through e-commerce exports. Currently, over 50,000 Indian manufacturers, traders and brands are using this platform to sell over 140M products across twelve Amazon marketplaces worldwide such as Amazon.com in USA, Amazon.co.uk in the UK, etc. Through the program, Amazon provides the most comprehensive suite of services to sellers of all sizes and scale to enable them to sell across the globe. These services have been created to meet their specific requirements at every stage of their business lifecycle.

To smoothen the selling experience for Indian sellers, Amazon offers fulfilment services under the program that allows sellers to focus on their product and pricing, offers imaging and cataloging support to sellers by getting their photo shoots done as per Amazon standards at nominal costs, provides access to third parties that can provide tax guidance services and other export related modalities by connecting them to concerned advisory agencies.

Furthermore, through its various spike sale events across the world, Amazon provides a lucrative platform for Indian sellers to engage with global audiences. Whether it’s Prime Day, Black Friday, and Cyber Monday, Amazon enables thousands of sellers to delight global customers with wide selection, greater value and a reliable and trustworthy shopping experience.

To enable sellers to familiarize themselves with the tastes & preferences of the destination country and to launch relevant selection, Amazon’s global teams also help sellers understand the demand patterns in various countries. The team also gives guidance on how sellers can improve discoverability of their products on each marketplace. Some of this includes guidance on the type of deals they can run, the kind of advertisements they can run on these platforms and how they can use social media channels to drive awareness about their listings on the
various marketplaces.
