The Niine Movement to Promote Menstrual Health Awareness

PANAJI:
The Niine Movement, a five-year plan by Niine Sanitary Napkins to tackle the taboos surrounding menstruation amongst both genders and across all ages, is participating in the JCI World Congress 2018 between 30th October 2018 and 3rd November 2018, in Goa.

JCI and the Niine Movement recently announced their national partnership to drive a menstrual health awareness programme across 500 cities in India. Through the association, JCI and the Niine Movement aim to sensitise the youth of India with the importance of encouraging menstrual health awareness, mobilising them to work towards a better future where every girl and woman in India can live a healthy and dignified life.

Through menstrual hygiene awareness, the Niine Movement also intends to bridge the gap between the 18% of women and girls in India using sanitary napkins and the 82% who often revert to unhygienic and potentially unsafe alternatives such as old cloths, rags, hay and even hash, an outcome of the taboo around menstrual hygiene, the fundamental lack of education or discussion around the subject, and poverty.

Apart from driving awareness, the Niine Movement is also implementing their plans by creating premium quality Niine sanitary napkins with special disposable bags that facilitate appropriate disposal. Special measures are taken to create these affordable sanitary napkins in state of the art plants and with best quality raw materials.

The prestigious JCI World Congress 2018 will involve the Niine Movement team transcending the dialogue of menstrual hygiene in India with a special focus on countries facing similar menstrual hygiene awareness similar to India. The 5 day congress will discuss the importance of cultivating a world where menstrual hygiene is treated with utmost importance within subjects such as ‘Effective communication’, ‘Leadership’ and ‘Partnering for Impact.’ The congress will also feature various workshops like ‘Strategic planning workshop’, ‘Public speaking’ and ‘Women’s Leadership workshop’ among others.

Speaking about the Niine Movement’s presence at JCI World Congress 2018, Amar Tulsiyan, Founder of Niine Sanitary Napkins and the Niine Movement, said, “We are elated to have taken our association a step further, as Niine Sanitary Napkins and the Niine Movement join JCI’s 3-year Menstrual Health Awareness programme in 500 cities across India.

It has been a proud moment for me personally to take this journey with JCI, especially because I have been an active member of JCI over the past few years and have been inspired by the range of work they have undertaken. With this opportunity, we wish to reach out to over 122 countries, with special focus on countries facing issues similar to India.

Our goal is to multiply impact with the valuable insights and knowledge that we have gained in Menstrual Health issues and JCI’s dedicated workforce and ability to drive momentum and utilise a variety of resources. We are also working towards helping the JCI awareness drive with free and subsidised distribution of Niine sanitary napkins. We have taken measures to ensure that the sanitary napkins are premium quality products developed in state of the art plants and with best quality raw materials. Our aim is to reach as many women as we can and cultivate a world where periods are not considered a taboo and sanitary pads are a necessity more than a luxury.”

Before India marks its 75th Independence Day in 2022, the Niine Movement’s vision is to enable 75% of women in the country to use safe and hygienic sanitary napkins. It is currently at 18%, and to close this massive gap, Niine believes the next generation will be the key.
