One Lakh Small Scale Industries to be set up in the State by 2022: Minister P Rajeeve

The government aims to start one lakh nano, micro, small and medium industries in the state by 2022, said Minister for Law, Coir and Industries P. Rajeeve.

He was inaugurating the three-day non residential Physical Capacity Building Programme on “Valorization of Fish and Fishery products for Entrepreneurship Development” organized by the Department of Industrial Fisheries, Cochin University of Science and Technology. “We should be able to promote industries in the way of ‘Your Industry, our prides’, he added. He opined that the program implemented by the University could be expanded in conjunction with the Skilling Kalamassery Youth (SKY) project.

The event organized with the financial assistance of Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana and NFDB Govt. Of India, Hyderabad. Dr. K. N Madhusoodanan, Vice Chancellor presided over the function . Dr. P G Sankaran, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Dr. Meera V., Registrar, Dr. S. Bijoy Nandan, Dean, CUSAT Marine Science, and Dr. Ginson Joseph Asst. Professor School of Industrial Fisheries CUSAT participated. The Minister released the book ‘Fish will make you an Entrepreneur’ written by Dr. Ginson Joseph and published by Public Relations& Publications Department CUSAT. Dr. P G Sankaran received the first copy.

Fishers, fish Farmers, Women Communities, Self-help Groups, Start-ups, Unemployed youth, students would be the beneficiaries of this programme. Theory and hands-on training on various value-added fishery products have been arranged for the beneficiaries to transfer the know-how in fishery products and also equip them to establish entrepreneurship in fish and fishery products. Technical sessions wil be handed by experts from various institutions such as NIFPHATT, CIFNET, NABARD, EIC, FSSAI, MSME, DIC and Bank of India.
